Assessment of Wild Daisies™ Frog Book Series of Early Readers
The Wild Daisies™ Frog Book Early Readers feature a group of genderless and cultureless frogs — Zip, Zeek, Zak, Zo, Zoosh and their friend Mac the Dog. More than 400,000 books have been sold and the integrated reading program has been used in many schools and home school environments in Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere over the last decade.
Many children have been taught to read using the materials often using the strategy of letting the students add the particular book of the graduated series to their own personal bookshelf once it has been mastered. During this time many unsolicited letters of appreciation have been received by Wild Daisies™ about the Frog Reader Series. Here are a few from teachers:
Very good progression, particularly for slower learners, covers the strategies very well. The children love the characters. A great resource. Kings Prep School – New Zealand
Graded progression with introduction of new words very good. They love the “frogs” – we love the books. Port Vila International School – Vanuatu
The children in my reading group look forward to the stories and worksheets. I know they have been a great “springboard” in another classroom where reading was a “serious chore” and the children now have a renewed love of reading. Swan Hill – Australia
During the decade that the books have been used there has been an intensive independent case study where all the students gave positive comments about the Wild Daisies™ Frog Books and were able to identify with the characters and enjoyed their adventures. The formal educational achievement evaluations attested to the improvement of student attitude to reading, much greater reading confidence and expanded vocabulary after an eight- month program using the books.
